How taxi pricing works on Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan doesn't have metered taxis. Instead, transport is either a shared songthaew (a pickup truck with bench seats you share with others) or a private taxi / minivan (just your own group, door-to-door, up to 9 people). Prices are set by distance and are usually agreed before you set off.

What affects the price

  • Distance & road: remote east-coast spots like Thong Nai Pan and Than Sadet involve steep, slow roads, so they cost a little more.
  • Time of day: late-night and very early pickups may carry a small out-of-hours surcharge.
  • Full Moon Party weeks: demand is high and roads are busy, so prices can rise slightly — book early.
  • Group size: tell us how many are travelling and we'll include it in your quote.
Good to know: a shared songthaew can be cheaper if you're travelling solo, but you'll wait for it to fill and share stops. A private minivan is door-to-door, on your schedule, and just for your own group.
